Possibly confusing, let's see if it can be documented. The oddball will be the 2 star bucket.

Event Workflow

  • Import pictures
  • First Run: rate picture 0-1, 3-4 (there are no 5 stars on the first run, nothing is perfect)
    • 0 stars - useless photos
    • 1 stars - near useless photos, maybe scenes that might be needed in the future
    • 2 stars - Reserve 2 for later use
    • 3 stars - Good\Average photos
    • 4 stars - Almost perfect
    • 5 stars - Reserve 5 for later use (pictures are Done)
  • Filter = 4 stars
    • Develop all 4 star pictures
    • Move to 5 when completed and do not touch again
    • Any original development copies of 5 star pictures are moved to 2. These pictures have had virtual copies made that were used to apply filters to for the final picture.
    • When 4 stars are empty, move to the next bucket
  • Filter = 3 stars
    • Review and develop all 3 star pictures.
    • Depending on the load, 3 stars may have a second rate run and become 4 stars.
      • If so, redo the 4 star step
      • If not, develop to 5/2 or send back to 1 (unused pictures)
    • When 3 stars are empty, move to the next bucket
  • Filter = 2 stars
    • These pictures are the originals to ones that processed into 5 with filters. Decide if you want to use any of these and move them to 5 stars if so. Generally I do not include duplicates of the same scene with the final product. Optionally, exporting them with the 1 stars is something that can be done as well to include them as 'extras'.
  • Filter = 5 stars
    • Optional: Review for all scenes as needed
  • Filter = 1 star
    • If needed, run the 1 stars one more time and treat them like they are average ordinary point and shoot pictures and drop out ones (rate with '0') that might be repeats of scenes already taken, aren't good at all, etc.
    • Also "1 stars" is the final place to look if there was a scene that you don't have in the 5 star bucket at this point (3 and 4 are empty if you're here). If they're not in 1, there is nowhere else to go. Treat as salvage only and don't try to make it work unless you absolutely need to.
    • Export them as 'Extras' and do not include them as the main final product.
  • Filter = 5 stars
    • Export as the main final product into two groups to make it easier for the average computer user to be able to have reprints made or to post online. Most people will not want to upload 10MB pictures to Facebook and won't know how to convert sizes themselves.
      • Full Resolution (for printing)
      • 800x600 or 1280x720 (for emailing\posting to social media sites)
      • Exif\Copyright embedding
      • Watermark as needed
  • Create the DVD
    • I include an html front end for quick browsing (Lightroom or Picasa)
    • Decide if the 'Extras' should be included or not
  • License
  • Print (as required)
