Valerie Lynn "Val" (Beane) Otis

OAKLAND -- Valerie L. Otis, 55, went to be with her Lord and Savior, March 7, 2010, at Maine General Medical Center, Thayer Unit in Waterville with her husband and family by her side.

Val was born in Benton on Nov. 16, 1954, the daughter of Eugene H. and Emily (Brousaides) Beane.

Valerie grew up in Benton and attended Lawrence High School, graduating in 1973. She then went to Eastern Maine Medical School and later graduated as a registered nurse. Val worked as a registered nurse for 34 years between Thayer Hospital, Colby College, and Lakewood Manor, but most recently at Gould and Kennebec Valley Mental Health.

Valerie had been a member of Calvary Temple in Waterville for 32 years. She enjoyed reading, going to the ocean, taking road trips, and coordinating church suppers with her husband, Paul. She helped manage the food bank at church and loved horses.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Paul A. Otis Jr.; a daughter, Kathy Otis; two brothers, Alan Beane and his wife, Janice, of Benton, and David Beane of Benton; a sister, Joyce Ray and her husband, Bob, of Dunbardon, N.H.; granddaughter, Cheyenne; her best bud, Donna; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

She was predeceased by her parents.

The family would like to thank Oakland Rescue for their assistance so many times and the nurses in the Critical Care Unit and 3 North.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations in her memory to the Humane Society Waterville Area, 100 Webb Road, Waterville, ME 04901.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. March 13 at the Calvary Temple, 60 West River Road, Waterville, with a time of fellowship after. At the request of the family there will be no visitation hours.
